Art Journey With Muriel

Profile
I am Muriel Adam
I am an amateur artist based in India. Although drawing and painting have been my favourite pastimes since my early childhood, I started pursuing it seriously now in my post retirement phase.
With this idea in mind, I had also joined a Fine Art introductory course at Delhi Collage of Art, a reputed fine art school in New Delhi. The course was quite informative but in the long run I found that it is more advantageous to remain amateur. Being an amateur the artist enjoys the liberty to be more adventurous and experimental with creative ideas. It makes one experience dependent rather than Guru dependent.
Also, in this phase of life I have plenty of spare time qnd no monetary worries to occupy my attention. Any criticism or rejection does not affect me. I thought since I happen to be good in drawing and painting why not adopt it as a means to express my creative ideas.
Inspirations
Small and humble things of everyday life fascinate me. The interplay of light and colours on ordinary objects such as rain drops hanging from the balcony railing are enough to inspire me.
Purpose or object
I intend to share with the viewer of my art, the great joy and marvel I derive in my mind from my humble subjects. If it kindles a similar happy nostalgic memory in their heart, I would consider my art a success.
Medium and technique
I am a big fan of water colours and acrylics. Since I am still at an ‘exploring’ stage, I have been using brush and knives for my paintings. However, any other tool to capture the essence can work for me. Whenever I travel, I carry my mobile camera and click the one in a lifetime moments to later translate into paintings. I have also started using photoshop lately to help me in deciding colour compositions or maintaining the correct perspectives in my drawings.
My Favourite Artists
I would like to mention some of my favourite contemporary artists whose works I find very amazing. Elizabeth Tyler from England. The way she captures the realistic beauty of simple things in water colour is awesome. This Scottish artist – Scott Naismith’s use of intuitive colours in his landscape paintings raise them to another level. Jimmy Fali from Pakistan captures the intricate architectural beauty of middle east buildings and compiles them so well. Then Solveig’s (from Australia ) style of capturing different shades of colours without actually blending them in order to present a beautiful effect is so unique.
